PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim girls end 43-game losing streak, beat PT 52-45

(Port Townsend) -- Sequim's Lady Wolves ended a 43-game losing streak Tuesday night, defeating the Port Townsend Redskins 52-45.
It was the first Sequim girls basketball victory since February 23, 2008 -- when the Wolves beat Steilacoom 49-38 at Rick Kaps Gym in a district tournament opener.
Sequim's Lea Hopson led all scorers with 23 points, pouring in 4 second-half triples and hitting 6 of 8 fourth-quarter free throws.
Port Townsend post players Kerri Evalt and Bella Garrison-Fox led the Redskins with 12 points apiece.
The Wolves (1-1 overall and in Olympic League play) led 9-4 after the first quarter, 21-12 at halftime and 34-26 at the third quarter.
The Redskins (1-2 overall, 1-1 in Olympic League play) closed to within one point at 37-36 with 5:24 left, but Sequim extended the lead to double digits and protected the advantage at the free throw line down the stretch.
The Lady Wolves host Chimacum for a non-leaguer Thursday and travel to Belfair to play North Mason Friday.
