The 11-1 Lions move to the semifinals next Saturday morning at 10 in the Tacoma Dome against Archbishop Murphy, a 14-7 winner over W.F. West of Chehalis.

The teams struggled to a scoreless tie over the first 20 minutes of the contest, playing in a driving, wind-swept rain at Silverdale Stadium.

Lynden led 7-0 when quarterback Jordan Hastings scored on a 4-yard touchdown run with 5:07 left in the first half.

The Lions' three-play scoring drive was set up at the Sequim 13 after a fumble by Sequim's Drew Rickerson.

Another Sequim fumble, recovered by Lynden at the Sequim 33 with 2 minutes until intermission, led to the Lions second score.

Hastings hit Blair Bomber with a 19-yard touchdown strike, putting the Whatcom County club up 14-0 at halftime.

Lynden had 70 yards at halftime, while Sequim was held to 55 yards.

Sequim avoided a disaster after a second half opening Rickerson fumble that gave Lynden the ball at the Sequim 3.

The Wolves held Lynden out of the end zone, the Lions settling for a 20-yard Santiago Lopez field goal that made it 17-0 with 10:12 left in the third quarter.

Sequim got a break midway through the third period, when Chris Goss recovered a Bomber fumble at the Lynden 24.

(Poulsbo) -- Sequim survived a Burlington-Edison fourth quarter comeback, stopping the Tigers' potential game-tying 2-point conversion as regulation time expired Saturday night, holding on for a 34-32 victory at North Kitsap High School.

The first-round Class 2A state playoff win sends the Wolves to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history next weekend against the defending state champion Lynden Lions.

The quarterfinal game with Lynden will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Silverdale Stadium.

Sequim (10-1) led 34-12 with 10:45 remaining after Travis Decker's third touchdown of the game, but the Tigers made a furious comeback with 20 points in the final period.

Burlington-Edison quarterback Dylan Boe finished a 10-play, 65-yard march with a 10-yard scoring pass to Jake Schifferl at the 8:15 mark, cutting to the lead to 34-19.

Another Tiger drive was capped off by Damon Acoba's 13-yard dash to the end zone, chopping the Sequim advantage to 34-26 with 5:23 left.

Getting the ball back with 1:47 to play, Burlington-Edison drove 65 yards in 12 plays, with Boe hitting

Achilles Wynn near the left pylon on a comeback for a 13-yard score as regulation time expired.

After using multiple wide receiver sets during most of the comeback, B-E returned to the Wishbone formation for the 2-point attempt that could have sent the contest into overtime.

B-E's Acoba's fullback dive was smothered by Thomas Gallagher and a host of purple shirts, sending the Sequim throng into jubilation.

Sequim celebrated early after the Tigers' Cody Larson fumbled the opening kickoff to Frank Catelli at the B-E 29.

Set up by a 16-yard Drew Rickerson quarterback keeper, Decker scored from the 4 on the fourth play for a 7-0 Sequim lead.

Burlington-Edison's 2-time All-State kicker Andrew Furney boomed field goals of 35 and 30 yards to close the score to 7-6 after the first quarter.

The Wolves ran the ball 10 out of 13 plays on an 80-yard drive with Decker racing around left end for a 31-yard score with 9:38 left in the first half, increasing the Sequim advantage to 14-6.

The Tigers Mikey Sanchez found the end zone with 4:14 to go until halftime, chopping it to 14-12.

B-E (8-3) went to the bag of tricks on the conversion attempt with PAT holder Boe flipping the ball to kicker Furney, who was run down by Sequim defenders well short of the goal-line.

With 1:02 left in the half, Sequim's Rickerson hit John Textor on a post pattern for a 59-yard scoring connection.

The Wolves led at halftime 21-12 after blocking a Furney field goal attempt.

Rickerson and Textor connected again for 44 yards on the same play with 5:08 to go in the third quarter, putting Sequim ahead 28-12.

Sequim will play the Burlington-Edison Tigers at North Kitsap High School's Viking Stadium in the opening round of the State 2A playoffs next Saturday night at 6.

Decker scored his second TD with 2:38 to go in the opening quarter on a 4-yard run, putting the visitors up 14-0.

Drew Rickerson's quarterback scramble of 21 yards to the Trojans 6-yard line was the key in a 10-play, 47-yard march.

Sequim's John Textor stopped the Trojans with an interception of Fife quarterback Devan Bennion at the Wolves 45.

Sequim's drive to a third score included a 27-yard Rickerson pass to Textor and a 17-yarder to Clancy Catelli.

Decker struck paydirt from the 12 on the first play of the second quarter, outrunning the Fife cornerback to the pylon on a sweep from the T-formation. Sequim 21, Fife 0.

(Sequim) – Sequim returner Alex Gillis found the end zone on an 85-yard opening kickoff return and a first quarter 45-yard punt return that propelled the Wolves to a 55-21 Nisqually Olympic League triumph over the Washington Patriots.

The victory, along with North Mason’s 38-23 win over Fife, clinched the league’s number one seed into the state playoffs for Sequim.

Sequim’s regular season finale is next week at Fife, a 38-23 loser to North Mason, with a first-round state matchup looming with the number three seed from the Northwest District on November 13th or 14th at either Silverdale Stadium or Viking Stadium in Poulsbo.

The quick striking Wolves (8-1, 6-0) scored 4 touchdowns in the opening 6 minutes Friday in a game played on a relatively dry Sequim field, without the appearance of rain or wind.

Gillis caught Perry Rooks’ opening kickoff with a full head of steam at the 15, flying through excellent center return blocking and cruising 85 yards to a score.

Mitch Koonz kicked the first of his 4 PAT’s, giving Sequim a 7-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game.

Sequim tackles Thomas Gallagher and Roman Turner dominated the defensive line of scrimmage, holding Washington to three plays and out on its first three drives.

The Wolves scored again just 77 seconds later on a 49-yard run by running back Travis Decker, a jaunt that pushed the senior over the 1000 yard barrier.

Quarterback Drew Rickerson scored the 2-point conversion for a 15-0 advantage.

Sequim’s Clancy Catelli tackled Washington punter Sergey Yevchev at the Patriots 2 after a bobbled high snap, leading to another Sequim score -- a 2-yard pass from Rickerson to John Textor -- boosting the Sequim lead to 22-0 with 8:44 left in the opening quarter.

Washington was forced to punt again from its own 5, as Yevchev’s boot was grabbed by Gillis at the Patriots 45 with the senior angling to the right sideline, evading a tackle at the 15 and scoring his second TD of the night and third of the season.

The Wolves led 29-0 with just 5 minutes and 53 seconds elapsed on the clock.

After an interception halted the next Patriots drive, Sequim took over at its own 45.

Rickerson hit Textor on a drag across the middle and the elusive senior evaded 4 tackles, rambling 50 yards down the right sideline to the Washington 5.

Rickerson hit Clancy Catelli for a 1-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the drive as time expired in the first quarter and a 29-0 Sequim bulge after Frank Catelli’s PAT.

Sequim scored three more times in the second quarter – on a 22-yard Decker run, a 35-yard Frank Catelli quarterback keeper and a 3-yard run by Stephen Stilts - for a 55-0 halftime lead.

Sequim Coach Erik Wiker substituted liberally beginning early in the second quarter.

The Patriots scored three times in the second half against Sequim reserves – two touchdowns by Yevchev and another by wingback Eli Weems.

While Sequim visits Fife next week, Washington (2-7, 1-5) hosts winless Klahowya.

(Sequim) -- Two kicking game mishaps by Kingston helped Sequim to an early lead as the Wolves walloped the winless Buccaneers 49-6 Friday night.

The Sequim win, combined with North Mason's 42-22 victory over Steilacoom, sets up a matchup between the Wolves (5-1, 3-0) and the undefeated Bulldogs (6-0, 3-0) next Friday in Belfair.

A 3-yard punt by Kingston's Ian Chaussee gave Sequim its opening possession at the Kingston 24.

Running back Travis Decker toured the left side of the Buccaneers defense for the first of four touchdowns on a 24-yard run.
