(Bremerton) -- Savante Perrigo scored the winning touchdown on a 34-yard quarterback draw with 22 seconds left as the Bremerton Knights defeated Sequim 27-20, knocking the Wolves out of postseason contention.
Bremerton, Kingston and Sequim all finished in a tie for third place in the Olympic League 2A standings with 3-3 records.
A tiebreaker on aggregate points scored in head-to-head matchups among the 3 schools gave third place to Bremerton and fourth place to Kingston, a 45-21 winner over Port Angeles Thursday.
Sequim (5-3) ends the season in fifth place.
Momentum shifted several times in the final quarter with the teams tied at 20.
Bremerton (3-6) seized the advantage after a critical Sequim turnover, a fumble by Gavin Velarde at the Sequim 37 with just 1:11 to go.
Two plays later, on 3rd-and-7 from the Sequim 34, Bremerton quarterback Savante Perrigo dropped to pass, hesitated a moment for receivers to get into position for downfield blocks, then sprinted straight up the middle into the Wolves secondary.
The speedster angled to the left sideline and was home free for the winning score.
Perrigo rushed 9 times for 134 yards and a pair of scores. The dual-purpose threat completed 5 of his 13 passes for 45 yards and 2 touchdowns, with a pair of interceptions.
Sequim's final gasps included a 24-yard slant from quarterback Riley Cowan to Velarde, who got out-of-bounds at midfield with 7 seconds left.
On the last play, Cowan dropped back and fumbled, with the ball bouncing into the hands of Sequim lineman Zach Hebert.
Hebert made a quick lateral to Brenden Lauritzen, who was tackled at midfield as time expired, sending the Bremerton players and students into elation.
Cowan was 14-of-26 in the passing department for 198 yards, a touchdown and was intercepted once.
Velarde caught 10 passes on the night for 152 yards and a touchdown.
Wolves running back Mark Feeney carried 21 times for 111 yards and Arnold Black had 67 yards on 12 carries and two TDs.
Bremerton running back Richard Bios churned up 151 yards on 24 carries.
Sequim had slight advantage in total yards -- 383 to 332. But the Knights rolled up 287 rushing yards on 36 carries against a Sequim defense that was missing several starters due to injury.

Sequim scored first
The teams traded touchdowns in the first 3 quarters, Sequim scoring first on a 2-yard run by Arnold Black, with Cowan kicking the PAT and a 7-0 Wolves lead.
Perrigo hit the board for Bremerton on a 3-yard run to tie the contest at 7 with 7:15 to go in the opening quarter.
The Cowan-to-Velarde connection scored from 18 yards with 1:12 to go to the first break, as Sequim went ahead 13-7.
The Knights tied the game at 13 on a 14-yard pass from Perrigo to Teni Vaoifi with 10:55 to go until halftime.
The Wolves squandered a long march into Bremerton territory about a minute before intermission when Vaoifi intercepted Cowan in the end zone on a throw into double coverage.
Black scores to put Wolves ahead in 3rd quarter
Senior Arnold Black's 4-yard touchdown run put Sequim ahead 20-13 with 3:01 to go in the third quarter, his fifth rushing TD of the campaign.
Bremerton tied the game at 20 with 1:53 to go in the third with a 12-yard pass from Perrigo to Mikhail Papillon.
Tension filled fourth quarter tied at 20
Early in the final period, Sequim drove 11 plays to the Bremerton 40, but Velarde was stuffed for a yard loss on 4th-and-2.
The teams exchanged punts and Bremerton got the ball with 5:38 left at the Sequim 45.
The Wolves defense came up with a big interception of Perrigo by Velarde at the Sequim 37.
The next scrimmage play, Velarde caught a Cowan pass for 37 yards to the Bremerton 26.
However, the drive fizzled after a bad snap led to a 12- yard loss, then an illegal procedure penalty wedged around a pair of incompletions.
Velarde punted into the end zone with 2:28 left and Sequim forced a Bremerton three-and-out, the Wolves getting possession with 1:23 left.
When it appeared overtime could be in the making, Velarde caught a short pass on the left sideline, but lost possession in a scrum to Bremerton, leading to the Knights' winning score.

Velarde had 13 touchdowns on the season, 4 rushing, 7 receiving and 2 kick returns.
Cowan had 12 touchdown passes in his freshman year of high school.

2015 Football Game 7 - Olympic 48, Sequim 7

Number 7 Olympic romps to 48-7 win over Sequim

October 23rd, 2015 - 11:59pm

(Sequim) -- Senior fullback Geordyn Shinard scored four touchdowns as the Olympic Trojans powered to a 48-7 romp over the Sequim High Wolves Friday.
Shinard, a 5-foot-10, 215-pound bruiser, rushed 16 times for 131 yards, visiting the Sequim end zone 3 times on rushing scores and catching one of 3 touchdown passes thrown by Olympic senior quarterback Matt Becker.
Becker was 8-for-8 in the passing department for 122 yards, while carrying 13 times for 156 yards and a TD, plus a 2-point conversion run.
Olympic -- the state's 7th-ranked 2A team -- improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Olympic League play, setting up a showdown for the league championship at Silverdale Stadium next Friday against the North Kitsap Vikings, a 48-6 winner over Port Angeles.
Olympic led 29-0 at halftime and scored the first 36 points of the game before Sequim tallied on a 13-play, 70-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Riley Cowan to Gavin Velarde with 4:19 left in the third period.
The duo teamed up for a 41-yard gain on the scoring drive that converted a 3rd-and-16 from the Wolves 24.
Cowan completed 9 of his 23 passes for 112 yards, a TD and an interception.

Velarde had 5 catches for 76 yards and a score.
The Trojans got two more touchdowns in the final period, the last on a Shinard 8-yard run with 6:14 remaining that triggered the running clock.
Olympic's offensive line opened huge holes for the running game and ample passing time for the elusive Becker.
The Trojans' advantage in total yards was 461-190, including 339-78 in rushing yardage.
Arnold Black had 45 yards on 10 carries for Sequim and Mark Feeney added 40 yards on 3 carries.

Friday's contest was the last home game for 23 Sequim football players, including Ian Dennis, Noah Christiansen, Thomas Winfield, Ben Hughes, Ethan Richmond, Nick Faunce, Michael Shimer, Nick Tucker, Kane Stoddard, Arnold Black, Brandon Stamper, Mark Feeney, Dillan Smith, Chris Whitaker, Alec Holland, Jack Ellison, Matthew Schock, Nathan Allison, Sebastian Goettling, Zach Hebert, Jason Springer and Ty Jones.
5 senior cheerleaders had their final home football game, including Alysha Graham, Morgan King, Amanda Sanders, Allie Bean and Kyla Rigg.
Sequim dropped to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in league action and will play next Thursday at Bremerton, a 44-0 winner over North Mason.
The Wolves will likely have a pigtail game Tuesday, November 3rd at North Kitsap against the third-place team from the Seamount League.

In other games Friday involving Olympic League teams, Klahowya beat Coupeville 41-15, Port Townsend ripped Chimacum 63-12 and Mountlake Terrace beat Kingston 23-20 in a non-leaguer.

2015 Football Game 6 - Sequim 49, Port Angeles 6

Sequim rumbles over Port Angeles 49-6

October 17th, 2015 - 5:26am

Gavin Velarde with the Rainshadow Rumble Trophy
(Sequim) -- The annual football rivalry game between Port Angeles and Sequim lived up to its Rainbow Rumble moniker in the early going before the Wolves eventually turned the contest into a 49-6 rout over the Roughriders.
Sequim improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in Olympic League 2A Division play, while Port Angeles fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in circuit action.

New look offense for PA
Port Angeles opened the game with a new wrinkle in its offensive formation that puzzled the Sequim defense initially.
The Riders used junior Tyrus Beckett at quarterback and operated from a multiple receiver, zone-read shotgun attack, instead of the more conventional "I" and split back formations used in their first seven games.
Beckett led Port Angeles ball carriers with 59 yards on 13 carries.

Port Angeles Coach Bret Curtis
After the opening Sequim drive of the game fizzled, Port Angeles started at its own 48 with 10:48 to go in the opening stanza.
Kellen Landry converted a 3rd-and-7 from the Sequim 49 with an 11-yard run and Beckett churned another 9 yards to the Wolves 27.
Following a Sequim penalty, Beckett found Rudy Valdez for a 21-yard pass reception to the Sequim 1.
Two plays later, Taylor Millsap punched it into the end zone and PA had a 6-0 advantage after a missed PAT.
Sequim survives 4 interceptions to rally ahead
Landry intercepted Sequim quarterback Riley Cowan 2 plays into the Wolves next possession, but the Riders were forced to punt 4 plays later, when the most electrifying play of the game was negated via penalty.
Sophomore Gavin Velarde fielded Jacob Kennedy's punt at the Wolves 14, reversed field to the left sideline and motored 86 yards for an apparent Sequim touchdown that was called back by a Wolves penalty for running into the kicker.
Kennedy punted again, this time pinning Sequim back to its own 10.
The Wolves journeyed 79 yards to the Port Angeles 11 before Landry intercepted Cowan a second time, returning the ball to the Rider 35.
On the next snap, PA's Beckett fumbled a shotgun snap from an empty backfield and was tackled out of the play by James Thayer.
Sequim's Matt Schock scooped the ball up at the PA 27 and rumbled 20 yards to the Rider 7.
Arnold Black scored two plays later from the PA 1 and the Wolves took a 7-6 lead after Thomas Winfield kicked the PAT with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter.
Velarde thrills the Homecoming crowd
The Wolves increased their lead to 14-6 only 3 plays into their next voyage with Velarde catching a long Cowan pass on the right sideline at the PA 45.
The sophomore speedster juked past 4 Rider tackle attempts in completing a 64-yard touchdown traverse, his 11th score of the season.
Sequim couldn't take advantage of a blocked punt that gave the Wolves possession deep in PA territory as PA's Ryan Rodocker got the third interception of Cowan on a 4th-and-goal from the Rider 18.
However, Port Angeles threw it right back to Sequim on the next snap when Michael Shimer picked off Beckett and returned the pigskin 10 yards to the PA 8.
Sequim was ahead 21-6 with 7:50 to go until halftime after Black scored on the ensuing play.
The Wolves extended their advantage to four touchdowns by marching 52 yards in 6 plays, all on the ground.
Cowan had a 22-yard scramble that put the ball on the Rider 22 and, after a series of 3 penalties, Brandon Stamper steamed 18 yards to the Port Angeles 1.
Black got the call two plays later for his third touchdown of the first half, giving Sequim a commanding 28-6 bulge.
Black muscled to 54 yards on 9 carries.
The Wolves had a chance to add even more before intermission, but PA freshman Garrett Edwards got the fourth interception of Cowan at the Rider 10, just before the Homecoming halftime show.

Sequim rolls in the second half
The Wolves clicked on their first possession of the second half, starting at midfield after a PA punt.
Black had a 17-yard run to the Rider 25, highlighting the 6-play sojourn that was completed through the air.
Noah Christiansen's 23-yard pass reception from Cowan made it 35-6 Sequim.
Cowan completed 10 of his 21 passes for 208 yards and 2 TD's, increasing his season scoring strike total to 10.

Freshman QB Riley Cowan
The Wolves scored on defense with 1:50 left in the third quarter, James Thayer intercepting Beckett and returning the ball 16 yards to the north end zone, boosting the lead to 42-6.
Arnold Black got a pass interception for Sequim and the Wolves had another 9-play, 64-yard journey, tallying on Mark Feeney's 13-yard jaunt with 8:44 left.
Feeney had game-high rushing honors with 78 yards on 7 carries.

Senior RB Mark Feeney
The 49-6 Sequim lead triggered the running clock for the remainder of the contest.
With the exception of a sprinkle just before halftime, the Rainshadow Rumble was played in dry conditions with the temperature remaining in the upper 50's.
Sequim had a 395-175 advantage over Port Angeles in total yards, with a 196-31 difference in passing yards.
The Wolves remained in third place in the Olympic League 2A Division standings at 3-1, a game behind Olympic and North Kitsap, both 4-0.
Playoffs looming for the Wolves
Sequim has apparently clinched one of three Olympic League 2A playoff spots after Kingston lost to North Kitsap Friday night.
The Buccaneers are 2-3 in league play with just one league game remaining at Port Angeles on October 30th. Kingston plays a non-leaguer against Mountlake Terrace next week.
Even if Kingston beats Port Angeles in two weeks and Sequim should lose its final 2 league contests against Olympic and Bremerton, the Wolves would have the tiebreaker over the Bucs from their 13-10 victory at Kingston on September 18th.

Sequim Coach Erik Wiker
Other Friday games
In other games involving Olympic League teams Friday night, North Kitsap defeated rival Kingston 28-7, Olympic crushed North Mason 42-0, Port Townsend ripped Klahowya 43-6, Chimacum broke its 14-game losing streak with a 14-9 win over Coupeville and Centralia dropped Bremerton 29-21 in a non-leaguer.
Next week's opponents
Next week, the Wolves host the undefeated and state-ranked Olympic Trojans, while Port Angeles travels to Poulsbo to play the North Kitsap Vikings.
