14 Football Game 9 - Bremerton 14, Sequim 13

Bremerton holds off Sequim 14-13

(Sequim) -- Bremerton held off Sequim 14-13 Thursday night to take its first Olympic League 2A Division victory of the season in the rain and wind at Sequim High School.
Sequim's loss, coupled with a Port Angeles defeat to Kingston 23-7 Thursday, sets up a three-way tiebreaker Tuesday night as Kingston, Port Angeles and Sequim will be fighting for the league's fourth and final playoff berth.
Sequim faces Port Angeles in the first "mini-game" of two - eight-minute quarters, the survivor playing Kingston with the playoff berth at stake.
The tiebreaker will most likely be held at North Kitsap or Silverdale Stadium.
The winner will face the South Puget Sound League champion next Friday or Saturday.
The Knights (2-6 overall, 1-5 in league) were ahead 14-7 with 10:44 to go after Ty Haley caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Connor Mahoney.
Sequim (4-5 overall, 2-4 in league) closed within a point with 2:02 remaining after Bailey Earley got his second touchdown reception of the game on a 5-yard scoring pass from Miguel Moroles.
A delay of game penalty on Sequim moved the PAT attempt back 5 yards and kicker Adrian Espinoza was unable to convert off the wet, muddy turf, leaving the score at 14-13 Knights.
The Wolves forced a Bremerton punt and got the ball back with 1:01 left at their own 15.
Moroles connected with Earley for 42 yards to the Bremerton 43 on the first play of the drive.
On a 3rd-and-27 after a Sequim chop block penalty, Moroles hit Gavin Velarde for 44 yards and a first down at the Knights 20.
The Wolves stalled and a fourth down 45-yard field goal attempt by Espinoza was wide right and short with 7 seconds left.

The Wolves stopped Bulldogs' quarterback Matt Becker at the 5 for a critical turnover-on-downs with 6:53 to go in regulation.
Long TD run ties game for Sequim
On the third play of the Sequim drive from the Wolves 15, Moroles cut to the right corner, getting the sideline and sprinting 85 yards for the tying score at 20 with 6:20 left -- culminating the 33-second, 95-yard journey.
Possessions ping-ponged in the final six minutes, including another North Mason interception by Winslow and two picks by Sequim's Kane Stoddard of Becker.
The final Stoddard interception came on the final play of regulation when the Bulldogs were in a 4th-and-7 at their own 22.
Becker made the saving tackle, pushing Stoddard out-of-bounds at the Bulldogs 15.
North Mason had the ball first in OT
Energized in the initial possession by North Mason in the Kansas Tiebreaker overtime, Sequim stuffed a pair of belly plays to halfback D'Andre Dixon, bringing up a 3rd-and-11 from the Sequim 26.
Becker got 8 yards on a QB keeper, forcing the Bulldogs into a 4th-and-2 from the Wolves 18. An illegal procedure flag on North Mason pushed the conversion distance into 4th-and-7.
Sequim overtime march for victory
A fired up Wolves offensive unit covered the 25 yards to the winning score in 5 plays.
Fullback Chris Whitaker got the first 17 yards on a pair of off-tackle runs, setting up 1st-and-Goal at the Bulldogs 8.

14 Football Game 5 - Centralia 34, Sequim 28 (OT)

Centralia stops Sequim in overtime 34-28

October 4th, 2014 - 1:00am

(Sequim) -- Centralia's defense rose up for a stop of Sequim's Chris Whitaker on a 4th-and-1 play in overtime, preserving the Tigers 34-28 non-league win over the Wolves Friday night.
Tied at 28 after regulation play, the Tigers drove the 25 yards for the go ahead score in 4 plays, capped by fullback Javon Brager's 3-yard run that gave the Evergreen League visitors a 34-28 advantage.
Riley Christensen's PAT kick was wide left, leaving the door open for Sequim.
Whitaker got 5 yards on the first play of Sequim's possession, but the Wolves bungled into 2 penalties on successive plays -- an illegal procedure and a delay of game -- backing the hosts into a 2nd-and-15 from the Tigers 30.
Quarterback Miguel Moroles found 6-4 receiver Bailey Earley on a square in pattern to the Tiger 17, giving Sequim two downs to pick up two yards for a first down.
On third down, Moroles gained a yard, setting up a 4th-and-1 at the Tiger 16. Whitaker was met by a host of Centralia tacklers, setting off jubilation among Tigers on the field and sidelines.
Speedy Kerner gave Centralia early lead
Lightning fast slotback Gavin Kerner put Centralia on the board first on a quick fire pass into the middle from quarterback Joe Aliff, Kerner tipping the ball to himself for a catch and a 65 yard touchdown with 8:30 to go in the opening stanza -- 7-0 Tigers.
Sequim (3-2) tied the contest at 7 after Moroles hit Earley down the right sideline for 38 yards and the equalizing score.
The Wolves tallied again for a 14-7 lead with 12 seconds left in the first quarter on Whitaker's 5 yard scamper.
It was all Centralia in the second period, the Tigers crossing the Sequim goal line three times.
Kerner scored on a 37-yard slotback reverse, tying the affair at 14 with 7:47 left.
Brager, a 6-0, 210 pound bruiser, blasted 33 yards with 4:25 to go, making it 21-14 Tigers.
Centralia (4-1) finished the first half scoring with :35 seconds left from the bag of tricks, wide receiver Nolan Wasson passing from a reverse to slotback Jacob Monohan for 22 yards and a Tigers touchdown.
The visitors went to the locker room ahead 28-14.
Third quarter comeback for Sequim
The Wolves adjusted in the second half to hold Centralia scoreless in regulation play, staying at home to shut down the fullback dive and controlling the speedy Kerner from the slotback position.
Sequim tallied twice in the third quarter -- a 20-yard Moroles scoring strike to Dylan Lott with 8:43 left and a 9 yard wingback reverse to Ethan Richmond with 5:02 to go -- knotting the score at 28.
Scoreboard fails
An equipment failure caused the final 3:38 of regulation and overtime to be played without the stadium scoreboard.
The final 17:02 of regulation was scoreless, sending the contest into a Kansas tiebreaker with each team getting a possession beginning at their opponents 25-yard line.
Next week
Centralia will visit Tumwater in an Evergreen League tilt Friday, while Sequim hosts North Mason for an Olympic League scrap and the Wolves annual Homecoming game.
