Sequim boys 49, North Mason 43

(Belfair) -- A series of fourth quarter triples by Alex Barry and Vance Willis allowed the Sequim High Wolves to escape from Belfair with a 49-43 Olympic League win over the North Mason Bulldogs.
The scrappy 8th place Bulldogs came out of the blocks a step quicker than the 2nd place Wolves Tuesday night, forging ahead 12-6 after one period and 21-17 at intermission.
A George Johnson trey with 6:05 left in the third period gave Sequim its initial lead at 24-23.
However, the Boys from Belfair surged back with 6 straight points, taking a 29-24 advantage.
North Mason was ahead 32-30 after three frames, leading to a thrilling final period with 6 lead changes.
Alex Barry hit triples on consecutive possessions from the left corner, the last with 2:20 left that put Sequim ahead for good at 42-39.
Barry was the game-high scorer with 20 points.
North Mason's Matt Boka, who scored 10 before fouling out with 1:35 to go, dropped in a layup that cut the Bulldogs deficit to 42-41 at the 1:50 mark.
The Wolves' Vance Willis drained a trey from the right corner with 1:25 remaining that gave Sequim some breathing room -- 45-41.
Barry added two freebies with 50 seconds left, making it 47-41.
After a final North Mason basket, Willis finished the scoring with 23 seconds to go with a pair from the charity stripe, giving him 11 for the night.
Erik Christensen continued to give Sequim scoring in the post with 12 markers.
Daniel Burggraaf led North Mason with 16 points, with 8 in the second period.
Davontea Davenport paced the Bulldogs with 9 tallies and Matt Duckworth had 8.
Sequim (12-4 overall and 10-2 in Olympic League play) host Klahowya Friday night at Rick Kaps Gym, while North Mason (4-13 overall and 1-12 in league play) visits the Olympic Trojans.
In the girls game Tuesday at Rick Kaps Gym, Sequim defeated North Mason 52-32.
