PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Port Angeles 73, Sequim 68 (2 OT)

(Sequim) -- Ian Ward scored 8 of his game-high 23 points in the second overtime as the Port Angeles Roughriders boys basketball team beat Sequim 73-68 at Rick Kaps Gym.
Colin Wheeler hit for 20 points and Hayden McCartney added 10 as the Riders improved to 9-4 overall and 7-2 in Olympic League play, a half-game ahead of the Wolves for second place in the circuit.
Port Angeles opened up a 27-18 halftime lead and increased the advantage to 14 with 4:34 left in the third quarter at 36-22.
Sequim -- riding a wave of emotion over the day's celebration of the school's centennial -- roared back into the contest on a 10-0 run over the next 3 minutes, 14 seconds, closing to within 4.
The Riders held onto a 38-34 lead going to the final period.
The fourth quarter was a classic in the ancient rivalry, with the lead changing hands 8 times -- the first on Nick Camporini's triple with 6:45 left, putting Sequim up 39-38.
Camporini was Sequim high scorer with 22.
Back and forth it went until Cameron Braithwaite, who had given the Riders the lead twice on 3-balls, hit one of two free throws with 4 seconds left, tying the game at 56.
Port Angeles stole the inbounds pass on Sequim's opportunity for a game-winner to end regulation play.
The Riders had the lead twice in the first extra period, before Sequim's Camporini hit a driving basket with 20 seconds left that created another deadlock at 62.
A second extra period ensued when PA failed to convert several putback attempts in the final seconds.
Port Angeles scored the first six points of the second OT as Ward's 8 points led the way to the Riders victory.
Jayson Brocklesby paced the Wolves with 15 points, while Gabe Carter and Corbin Webb added 9 apiece.
Sequim dropped to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in league play.
Port Angeles visits Olympic Tuesday, while the Wolves go to Belfair for a game with the North Mason Bulldogs.
