PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim boys 51, Kingston 45

(Kingston) -- Sequim's Gabe Carter and Rory Kallappa hit clutch hoops in the final period Friday night as the Wolves defeated the Kingston Buccaneers 51-45.
Sequim moved back into a first-place Olympic League boys basketball tie with the Olympic Trojans, who were idle Friday, at 9-1.
Although the game was tied five times, Kingston never led until Henry English canned a triple with 5 minutes left, putting the Buccaneers up 41-40.
English, who led Kingston with 11 points, hit a layup boosting it to 43-40, but Sequim's Alex Barry feathered in a hook shot, chopping the Bucs' lead to 43-42.
Sequim got the advantage back for good 44-43 with 2:08 to go on Gabe Carter's putback shot.
Carter finished with 5 tallies.
The Bucs' English missed a one-and-one with 1:49 remaining.
The Wolves' Kallappa penetrated into the lane and rebounded home his own miss with 1:32 left making it 46-43 Sequim.
Kingston point guard KT Deam drove into the paint and found Nathan Carleton alone for a layup, with 1:02 left, closing it to 46-45.
Deam, Hans Schippers and Connor Wall paced the Buccaneers with 9 markers apiece.
Jason Brocklesby found Kallappa free inside, who converted the 3-point play, leaving the Wolves ahead 49-45 with 29 ticks left.
Kallappa scored 7 of his 9 points in the fourth quarter.
Kingston's Deam and Carleton both missed treys and Sequim's Anthony Pinza canned two free throws with 9 seconds left to clinch the Wolves' victory.
Pinza had a career-high 12 points. Brocklesby had a game-high 16.
Early in the second half, Gabe Carter yanked down his 498th career rebound, pushing him past Derrin Doty (1986-89) as Sequim's all-time leading carom leader.
Carter had 11 boards on the night and added 6 assists.
Sequim led 9-5 after a defensive minded opening period and was up 22-21 at intermission.
The Wolves had a two-point advantage -- 36-34 -- at the third buzzer.
Sequim (11-3 overall) will host North Mason Tuesday at Rick Kaps Gym, while Kingston (8-6 overall, 6-4 in Olympic League play) entertains Olympic.
In other Olympic League boys games Friday, Klahowya edged Port Angeles 47-46, Port Townsend dropped North Mason 55-47 and Bremerton ran past North Kitsap 94-72.
In Olympic League girls games, Port Angeles drubbed Klahowya 66-36, Sequim defeated Kingston 46-39, Port Townsend beat North Mason 53-36 and Bremerton downed North Kitsap 37-29.
