(Tacoma) -- Eatonville exploded for 25 fourth-quarter points Tuesday night, ending the season for the Sequim Wolves boys basketball team 66-57 in a sub-district "play in" game at Franklin Pierce High School.

Taylor Callahan-McBride had 20 points and Erik Swartout added 18 for the Cruisers of the Nisqually League, who move into the 2A West Central District playoffs Friday night with a visit to the North Mason Bulldogs in Belfair.

Eatonville led 14-9 after the first quarter and 31-28 at halftime.

Sequim's Clancy Catelli hit a triple to open the second half, knotting the affair at 31.

The Wolves outscored the Cruisers 17-10 in the period and led 45-41 going to the fourth quarter.

Sequim led by five -- 49-44 -- with 5:30 remaining, but the Cruisers managed six straight points, taking the lead at 50-49 on Robert Horiskey's hoop with 3:48 left.

John Textor, who finished with a season-high 23 points, hit a basket on the next Sequim possession to take the lead back at 51-50.

Eatonville's Dalton Hancock nailed trey that gave the Cruisers the advantage for good with 3:10 to go -- 53-51.

Hancock fouled out with 1:26 remaining with 12 points, including another three-ball with 1:30 left that put Eatonville up 58-53.

Textor had two freebies with 1:24 to go that cut it to 58-55, but Eatonville put the game away by hitting 8 for 9 at the charity stripe.

Corbin Webb paced the Wolves with 17 points and Frank Catelli added 7.

Tuesday's contest was the final appearance in a Sequim basketball uniform for seniors Jordan Alcafaras, Clancy Catelli, Michael Dunning, Jeremie Oliver and John Textor.

Sequim finished the campaign with a 10-12 record.

(Silverdale) -- Brett Skogstad and John Fullington combined to score 32 points Friday night as the North Mason Bulldogs beat the Sequim Wolves 41-33 at the Olympic League Tournament.

The victory gave the Bulldogs the Olympic League's number two seed to the West Central District Tournament beginning Friday when North Mason will host the number three Nisqually League entry.

The loss forces the Wolves to travel to Pierce County Tuesday at 5:15 for a "play in" matchup with Eatonville of the Nisqually League at Franklin Pierce High School.

Fife and Steilacoom will also play Tuesday night at Franklin Pierce in a seeding game at 7.

North Mason's Skogstad started on fire, hitting 3 treys and a 2-point basket in the first quarter for 11 points and Fullington had 5 in the opening period as the Bulldogs led 16-7.

Sequim's defense ramped up though, holding Skogstad to just two more field goals in the game and Fullington to three additional baskets.

Skogstad had a game-high 21 and Fullington 12.

The Wolves closed to within six at halftime, 22-16.

The Bulldogs managed to outscore the Wolves 8-7 in the third quarter and went to the final break with a 30-23 advantage.

John Textor, who finished with 12 points for Sequim, connected for a traditional 3-point play, then hit two more free throws with 4:24 to play, drawing the Wolves to within one point at 32-31.

North Mason then closed out the game on an 8-2 run, four of the points on Skogstad free throws and a key basket by Dylan Hannafious, who had 4 for the Bulldogs.

Jeremie Oliver paced Sequim with 10 points and Corbin Webb added 5.
Sequim was without senior Michael Dunning, who had an ankle sprain this week, and junior Josh McMinn, who is nursing a badly-bruised shin.

(Sequim) -- Olympic High's Larry Dixon scored 33 points Tuesday night, leading the Trojans to a 55-49 Olympic League boys basketball victory over the Sequim Wolves.
Zach Bird, Jordan Halstead and the West Point-bound Dixon each hit triples in the last 3 minutes of the first-half that put Olympic up 34-28 at halftime, erasing a six-point Sequim advantage.
Olympic went to the fourth quarter with a 44-31 lead, holding Sequim to just 3 points in the third period.
Dixon was at his best driving to the hoop through traffic and converted on 12 of 15 free throws for the game.
Sequim closed to within 5 points in the final minute, but Olympic put the contest away with two freebies from guard Jesse Quitagua.
Quitagua added 10 points for the Trojans, who will play Port Angeles Friday night at Silverdale in Olympic League 3A tournament action.

(Belfair) -- North Mason's hot shooting Bulldogs built a 20-point first-half lead Friday night and steamrolled the Sequim Wolves 63-28 in an Olympic League boys basketball game at Belfair.

North Mason and Sequim are now tied for the league's number 2 seed to district with 9-6 marks.

The teams will have a rematch next Friday night at 6 in the Klahowya Secondary School gym.

The Olympic League tournament game will decide the number 2 and 3 seeds to district.

Kingston (10-5, 13-6) clinched the league's number one 2A seed Friday night with an 81-47 romp over Klahowya.

The Bulldogs came into the Friday contest suffering from four consecutive league losses and played inspired ball in the final home game for seniors Dylan Hannafious, Jace McMinn, John Fullington and Brett Skogstad.

Skogstad singed the twine for 15 in the first half, including three triples in the first 8 minutes, finishing the contest with a game-high 22 points.

Sequim trailed by 20 with 4:27 left in the second quarter, 28-8.

John Textor scored 8 of the Wolves 13 first half points.

Sequim's shooting woes continued after intermission, going without a point until the 1:41 mark of the third quarter, when North Mason had extended its lead to 30 points -- 46-16.

Hannafious scored 6 of his 13 points in the third for the Bulldogs.

Fullington, the 6-6 center bound for WSU on a football scholarship, scored 11 points, hitting a triple from the right corner as North Mason led 49-21 going to the final period.

Sequim's 28 markers Friday were the fewest points scored in a single game by the Wolves since modern-day record keeping began in the 1975-76 season.

The previous record for scoring futility was 29, set in a 95-29 walloping by O'Dea in 1997 and a 57-29 loss to Aberdeen in 1995.

Sequim (9-6 in Olympic League play, 10-9 overall) will host Olympic Tuesday at Rick Kaps Gym in the final home game for seniors, while North Mason (9-6 in Olympic League play, 12-7 overall) visits North Kitsap.

(Poulsbo) -- The Sequim boys basketball team got some clutch free-throw shooting from senior Jeremie Oliver as the Wolves downed the North Kitsap Vikings 51-48 in Poulsbo Tuesday night.

Oliver scored Sequim's final six points, hitting both ends of three consecutive one-and-one opportunities.

The fourth quarter comeback win for Sequim elevated the Wolves into a tie with Kingston for the top 2A Olympic League seed to the district tournament.

Sequim and Kingston are both 9-5 in league play with two games remaining, after Kingston lost 59-52 Tuesday at Olympic.

The Bucs would have the tiebreaker over Sequim with two victories against the Wolves this season.

North Mason lost at Port Angeles Tuesday 61-54, dropping the Bulldogs a game behind the frontrunners at 8-6.

After a nip-and-tuck start where the Vikings led 15-12 at the first quarter break, North Kitsap pushed ahead to a nine-point advantage 22-13 with 4 minutes left in the opening half.

Sequim closed on a 7-0 run trailed by just two -- 22-20 -- with 1:45 before intermission.

Oliver set off the streak with a pair of easy baskets off Viking turnovers.

NK led 35-20 at the break and 36-31 going to the fourth quarter.

John Textor scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the second half.

The Wolves tightened their defense and rebounding in the final stanza and took the lead 39-38 with 3:37 left on Josh McMinn's basket.

A pair of costly NK turnovers led to consecutive Sequim hoops as the Wolves pulled ahead by five with 45-40 with a minute to go.

The Vikings tried to foul their way back into the game, but the strategy was spoiled by Oliver's free throw shooting heroics.

North's Berkley Nilles banked in a 23-foot bomb from the right wing, closing to 45-43 with 40 seconds to go.

Oliver was fouled in backcourt and hit both ends of the one-and-one, making it 47-43.

Jordan Seth cut it to 47-45 with 20 seconds remaining.

The Vikings sent Oliver back to the stripe, where he hit two more for a 49-45 Sequim advantage.

NK's Austin Abrahamsen hit the last North trey with 8 seconds left, cutting it 49-48.

Nilles and Abrahamsen shared team-high honors for the Vikings with 11 points apiece.

Oliver's last pair of charity tosses was perfect -- he finished the game 9 for 10 -- making it 51-48, the final score as North's desperation shot was missed at the buzzer.

Sequim nailed 13-of-19 from the line for the game, 11 of 13 in the second half.

Tuesday night's contest was the ninth Sequim game decided by fewer than 4 points this season.

Textor finished with 7 points as the Wolves (8-5 in Olympic League play, 9-8 overall) closed to within a half-game of the 2A Olympic League leaders North Mason and Kingston with the victory.

Both the Bulldogs (8-4, 11-5) and the Buccaneers (8-4, 11-5) lost Tuesday night, with North Mason dropping a 42-29 decision to Port Townsend and Kingston losing 52-51 to arch-rival North Kitsap.

Sequim led 7-4 halfway through the first quarter, but yielded a 13-0 run to the Roughriders over the next 8 minutes as the PA led 19-7 with 4:16 left until halftime.

The Wolves outscored the Riders 4-0 over the rest of the first half, trailing PA 19-11 at intermission.

Port Angeles (6-6 in Olympic League play, 7-8 overall) was held to a single basket in the third quarter -- a 3-ball by Justin Williams -- as the Wolves outscored the Riders 14-3 in the period and Sequim led 25-22 going to the fourth quarter.

The Riders' Colin Wheeler scored two consecutive hoops to tie the score at 28 with 5:34 to go.

Wheeler was the game-high scorer with 14 points, 8 in the fourth quarter.

Sequim's unsung hero of the game, Nick Camporini, hit the first of his two fourth quarter triples to give the Wolves a 31-28 advantage with 4:03 left.

The teams traded baskets, with Clancy Catelli giving Sequim a five-point lead after a 3-point play with 3:03 remaining at 35-30. Clancy led the Wolves with 12 points.

PA's Ian Ward hit a pair of free throws with 2:46 to go, cutting the Sequim lead to 35-32.

Camporini buried his last triple with 2:31 left, putting the Wolves up 38-32.

The Riders' Justin Williams found his spot beyond the arc on the right wing for two straight treys in the next 45 seconds, tying the game at 38 with 1:28 remaining.

Williams finished with 13 points for Port Angeles.

After Jeremie Oliver missed a shot in the paint in the final minute, Port Angeles took the rebound and called timeout with 33 seconds left -- and 32 remaining on the shot clock.

Playing for the final shot, the Roughriders milked the clock and Antonio Stevenson advanced towards the left side of the lane in the final 10 seconds.

Sequim's Frank Catelli and John Textor converged on Stevenson, with the ball coming loose with 5 seconds left and Textor driving to the Sequim basket.

Textor put the ball off the glass and into the hoop as the final buzzer sounded, sending the visitors into jubilation and the hosts into despair as Sequim claimed the two-point victory.

Oliver paced Sequim with 9 points, while Camporini had 6.

Port Angeles will visit North Kitsap Friday night.

Sequim has a league bye Friday and will visit the North Kitsap Vikings Tuesday.

(Port Angeles) -- The Port Angeles girls cruised to an easy 84-20 victory over the Sequim Wolves Tuesday night in Olympic League basketball at the Rider Gym.

The Roughriders had a 21-5 advantage at the first quarter.

Jessica Madison connected for 13 of her 25 in the first half, while Alison Knowles hit 2 triples in the second period on the way to a 10-point performance.

Taylyn Jeffers had an excellent game working inside, scoring 11 of her 13 points before intermission.

PA had a 47-20 lead at halftime.

It was the Jess Madison show in the third quarter as the Rider junior hit two 3-pointers and another three deuces, finishing the period with 12 points -- and increasing the Port Angeles lead to 63-17 going to the fourth quarter.

The Riders used all reserves in the final period, as Mariah Frazier hit for 6, Ceci Stevenson had 5, while Paxton Rodecker and Kearsten Cox scored 4 points apiece.

Sequim junior Lea Hopson scored 12 points for the Wolves, while Caitlin Wiker had 4.

The Wolves (0-13, 0-17) are idle Friday, in action next Tuesday hosting North Kitsap.

(Washougal) -- A last minute, come-from-behind victory for the Sequim Wolves Saturday night made the four-and-a-half hour bus ride home from Washougal a lot more comfortable.

John Textor scored a pair of hoops in the final minute and a potential game-tying Washougal 3-ball missed at the klaxon, as the Wolves prevailed in the non-league affair 51-48.

Sequim (7-5 in Olympic League play and 8-8 overall) led 19-14 at the first quarter, energized by 2 triples from Corbin Webb and another 3 by Michael Dunning.

However, the Wolves had second quarter woes as they did the previous night in a 60-57 league loss to Kingston.

The Panthers of the 2A Greater St. Helens League had a 13-point run over a period of 5 minutes, 30 seconds, starting with a half-court heave by Brian Arceneaux that beat the first quarter buzzer and ended with Washougal leading 24-19 with 2:30 left in the first half.

The Panthers cashed in on all 10 of their charity stripe attempts in the second period, finishing the contest 14 of 14.

Meantime, Sequim hit just 2 of their 5 free throw attempts for the game.

Washougal led 26-25 at halftime.

The contest became a nip-and-tuck affair with four lead changes and a tie in third quarter, as brothers Frank and Clancy Catelli hit two baskets apiece for Sequim.

The Panthers kept the pace with 2 treys from T.C. White and another by Jeff Corona.
Washougal led 39-35 going to the final stanza.

After a tie at 33, the Panthers converted an 11-5 run and boosted their lead to 44-38 with five minutes to go.

Textor hit a two and Dunning a three-ball as the Wolves closed to 44-43 with 4:01 left.

The teams traded baskets for the next 2:30 with a Jeremie Oliver hoop cutting the deficit to 48-47 with 1:30 to play.

Textor scored on a 15-footer with 35 seconds left, putting Sequim ahead 49-48.

After a Jeff Corona miss for the Panthers with 23 seconds in regulation, Sequim had a sideline inbounds play in backcourt.

Frank Catelli zipped a bomb pass to a wide open Textor for a layup with 16 seconds left.

After a Washougal timeout, the hosts worked the ball for a Patrick McCarthy trey that glanced off iron at the final buzzer.

Textor was the game-high scorer with 16 and Clancy Catelli added 10 points for Sequim.

The Panthers got nine points apiece from T.C. White, Jeremy Ewing and McCarthy.

Sequim will visit Port Angeles for an Olympic League girls and boys doubleheader Tuesday.

(Kingston) -- Kingston held off a fourth quarter Sequim rally in the final minute Friday night, taking a 60-57 Olympic League boys basketball game from the Wolves.

The Kingston victory, combined with a North Mason loss to Bremerton, elevates the Buccaneers into a tie with the Bulldogs for the first 2A seed into district play with 8-3 records.

The loss leaves the Wolves as the third 2A seed by 1 1/2 games with four regular season contests remaining.
Corbin Webb and John Textor connected on 3-pointers in the first quarter as Sequim took a 17-5 lead into the second period.

The Bucs switched from a 2-3 zone into a 1-3-1 look in the second period and Sequim's shooting turned stone cold.

The Wolves' drought covered the first six minutes of the quarter, as the Buccaneers tied the game at 12 and continued a run of 18 consecutive points, taking an 11-point lead at 23-12 inside the final 2 minutes before intermission.

Sequim would spend the rest of the game trying to catch up.

Webb and Jeremie Oliver hit baskets before halftime as the Wolves trailed 25-17 at the break.

Sequim (7-5 in Olympic League play, 7-8 overall) was down by 5 points going the final period 42-37 after 3 baskets from beyond the arc by Webb, Clancy Catelli and Michael Dunning.

Sequim trailed by six, 53-47, with 2:19 remaining when Webb cut the deficit in half with a three-ball.

Dunning tied it at 53 with another trey with 1:35 to go.

Ryan Byers gave the Bucs the advantage at 55-53 with 1:15 to go, then Textor tied it again at 55 with 50 seconds left. Textor finished with 10 points.

Kingston (8-3 in Olympic League play, 11-4 overall) went inside to 6-3 post Zane Ravenholt, who finished with a game-high 20 points, on consecutive possessions and the junior scored a free throw, then a basket to give the home squad a 58-55 lead with 26 seconds to go.

Webb hit a Sequim basket from the right elbow to cut it to one, 58-57.

The Bucs finished the job with single free throws by Byers and George Hill.

A final Sequim shot for the potential tie was taken after the final buzzer.

Webb led the Wolves with 14 and Oliver had a season-high 11 points.

Sequim will play a non-league game at Washougal High School in Clark County this afternoon.

(Port Townsend) -- A big fourth quarter rally pushed the Sequim Wolves boys past Port Townsend 45-41 Tuesday night at Bruce Blevins Gym.

The Wolves trailed the Redskins by nine points -- 33-24 -- going to the final period.
Sequim ratcheted up the defensive pressure and got some key inside-the-paint offensive work from sophomore Frank Catelli and junior Josh McMinn.

The Catelli/McMinn combo meshed for 11 fourth quarter points as the Wolves outscored Townsend 21-8 in the final stanza.

Catelli finished with a team-high 10 and McMinn threw in 9 points.

The Wolves closed to 34-30 with 4:31 left on McMinn score off a Catelli feed.

Sequim's Kenny Meier tied the affair at 37 on a triple with 2:38 left.

Jacob DeBerry scored with 2:03 to go, putting PT back on top 39-37.

Sequim's Michael Dunning connected on a 3-ball with 1:43 left that put the Wolves ahead to stay at 40-39.
The Wolves clinched the game with 16 seconds left after John Textor hit a 35-footer from the right wing as the 35-second shot clock expired, giving Sequim a 44-39 advantage.

The Redskins (3-8 in Olympic League play, 5-10 overall) got 15 points apiece from Eric Thomas, including three baskets from beyond the arc, and Evan O'Brien.

Sequim (7-4 in Olympic League play, 7-7 overall) travels to Kingston Friday night, while Port Townsend hosts North Kitsap.

(Port Townsend) -- The Port Townsend girls outscored Sequim 18-7 in the fourth quarter Tuesday night at Bruce Blevins Gym, taking a 58-47 decision from the Wolves.

The Redskins' effort mirrored an 18-6 run by Sequim in the third quarter that left the squads tied at 40 going to the final period.

Sequim's Lea Hopson drove to the hoop repeatedly in the third stanza to draw PT fouls and hit 7 of 12 free throws in the period. Hopson finished with a game-high 22 points.

However, the Redskins got the calls in the fourth quarter and hit 7 of 15 charity tosses down the stretch to take their second win of the campaign, both at the expense of the Wolves.

Kerri Evalt hit 8 of her team leading 16 points in the first quarter for Port Townsend.

Kiley Maag scored 15, Brooke Little had 11 and Bella Fox 10 for the Redskins.

Sequim (0-11 in Olympic League play, 0-15 overall) was paced by freshmen Rylleigh Zbaraschuk with 14 and Haleigh Harrison with 7 points.

Port Townsend (2-9 in Olympic League play, 2-13 overall) will visit North Kitsap Friday, while the Lady Wolves host the Kingston Buccaneers.
