Mount Tahoma rips Sequim boys 70-36
December 2nd, 2015 - 9:46pm
(Tacoma) -- The Mount Tahoma T-Birds proved to be too athletic and quick for a youthful Sequim Wolves boys basketball team Wednesday night.
The T-Birds ripped the Wolves 70-36 in a non-league season opener in Tacoma.
Sequim started seniors Nick Faunce, Jackson Oliver and Jack Shea, along with sophomore Payton Glasser and freshman point guard Nate Despain.
The Wolves and T-Birds were tied at 10 after the first period, but the 6'3" Oliver picked up 2 early fouls in his efforts at the top of the Wolves zone defense and was forced to sit out most of the second period.
Mount Tahoma took advantage with a 29-11 run that put the T-Birds ahead 39-21 at intermission.
Sequim assistant varsity coach Phil Langston told Newsradio KONP that the Wolves' youth showed with a bevy of turnovers forced by Mount Tahoma's man press that came from all over the floor during the entire game.
Langston added the game was played at the T-Bird pace and will serve as an incentive for the Wolves to pick up their tempo and pressure in future practices.
Mount Tahoma led 54-34 after 3 periods and held the Wolves to a pair of free throws in the final 8 minutes.
The T-Birds swept the preliminary contests by winning both the JV and C team games.
Sequim (0-1) will host Klahowya for a non-league affair Friday night at 7:00 in Rick Kaps Gym.
