River Ridge ends season for Sequim girls 59-30

(Tacoma) -- The River Ridge Hawks eliminated the Sequim High Wolves girls from the postseason with a 59-30 victory in a 2A West Central District consolation bracket game at Wilson High in Tacoma Monday night.
River Ridge (14-9) will play Franklin Pierce on Wednesday at Wilson with a regional berth up for grabs.
The Lady Wolves finished the season with a 10-13 overall record.
River Ridge led 12-6 after the first quarter, as the Hawks got triples from Savannah McGill and MaKenna Schultz.
McGill topped the Hawks with a game-high 16 points and Schultz had 10 markers.
A 7-1 Sequim run closed the River Ridge lead to 19-17 after a basket by sophomore Ella Christiansen with 2:30 to go in the second period.
After a timeout, the Hawks ramped up the defensive pressure and outscored the Wolves 9-1, going to the locker room ahead 28-18.
Junior Jordan Miller kept Sequim close in the first 16 minutes with a pair of triples on the way to a team-high 11 points.
Numerous Sequim turnovers helped River Ridge move out to a 41-20 advantage after a 10-0 Hawks streak, that was broken by a pair of Wolves' baskets by sophomore Adrienne Haggerty, who had 6 tallies.
The Hawks led 43-24 at the third buzzer.
River Ridge outscored Sequim 31-12 in the second half.
The Hawks were paced by Kyla Coleman with 11 markers, Mel Sitani had 9 and Peggy Johnston had 8.
It was final prep basketball appearance for six Sequim seniors: Alyse Armstrong, Hailey Lester, Victoria Cummins, Caitlin Stofferahn, Katherine Landoni and Elise Beuke.
In other consolation bracket games Monday; North Kitsap squeaked by Renton 49-48, Fife drubbed Washington 39-29 and Franklin Pierce stopped Kingston 57-51.
