Sequim boys eliminate North Mason 64-48

(University Place) -- A huge 21-0 second quarter burst fueled the Sequim Wolves to a 64-48 victory over the North Mason Bulldogs Saturday night in a 2A West Central District boys basketball consolation bracket game at Curtis High in University Place.
Sequim (15-7 overall) stays alive to play Renton, an 83-68 loser to Washington in a quarterfinal Saturday, on Tuesday night at 7:45, once again at Curtis High.
North Mason concludes the season with an 8-14 overall record.
It was a battle early with 6 first quarter lead changes, the Wolves ahead 12-11 after 8 minutes.
North Mason's Zac Marks hit a basket to start the second period, giving the Bulldogs a brief 13-12 advantage.
The tide turned for good over the next 6 minutes, as Sequim reeled off a 21-point blitz to forge ahead 33-13.
The Wolves' streak was broken by a Daulton Geyer triple inside the final 10 seconds of the half.
Sequim's Vance Willis dropped a pair of free throws with 4 seconds left and the Wolves' halftime bulge was 35-16.
The Wolves hit all 11 of their second quarter charity tosses and canned 19-of-25 for the game, while the Bulldogs were 10-of-14.
North Mason outscored Sequim 18-11 in the third quarter, at one point cutting a 20-point deficit to 10, as Matt Becker scored 7 of his 8 markers for the Bulldogs.
Sequim went to the final quarter up 46-34.
North Mason senior Daniel Burggraaf played valiantly in his final prep basketball appearance, scoring 10 of his team-high 16 points in the final period.
The Bulldogs chopped a 16-point Sequim lead to 50-40 on Burggraaf's hoop with 5 minutes to go.
The Wolves were able to extend their advantage by netting 6-of-11 freebies in the final minutes.
Senior Alex Barry had a game-high 19 for Sequim, Jackson Oliver had 14 and Vance Willis hit for 8, including all 6 of his free throws.
Alex Rutherford tallied 8 for Sequim, Payton Glasser contributed 7 points and Adrian Espinoza chipped in 4.
North Mason was paced by Trey Fisher with 9 markers, while Matt Becker and Daulton Geyer had 8 counters apiece.
In other boys consolation bracket games Saturday; Liberty dropped Bremerton 69-45, North Kitsap stayed alive by beating Evergreen 64-41 and Olympic walloped Foster 72-41.
In the other boys quarterfinals Saturday; Fife beat Clover Park 58-46, White River tripped Sammamish 45-40 and River Ridge clipped Lindbergh 61-54.
