11 12 Boys Basketball Game 23 - White River 52, Sequim 49

White River drops Sequim 52-49

(Lakewood) -- After falling behind by 15 points to White River in the third quarter, the Sequim Wolves boys basketball team came back to within one point with 80 seconds left, but ended up 3 points short in their effort to qualify for the regionals Tuesday night.
Sequim lost to the Hornets 52-49 at Lakes High School in West Central District hoops.
Jason Tyler had the hot hand for White River early, cashing in 7 first quarter markers as the Hornets led 13-9 at the first buzzer.
A long Wolves scoring drought in the second quarter ended with a pair of Corbin Webb free throws as the Hornets pushed their advantage to 24-11.
Tim Guan drained a Sequim triple at the halftime horn closing the deficit to 26-14.
The Wolves fell behind 33-18 in the third period, but Webb began to attack the rack and scored 10 points in the quarter, including six charity tosses.
Webb finished with a game-high 23 markers.
A 15-7 Wolves fourth quarter run concluded with a Gabe Carter trey with 80 seconds left, cutting the deficit to 49-48.
Sequim failed to convert two chances to take the lead - a near-miss triple by Hill and a blocked shot on a fast break layup attempt by Carter in the final seconds.
Billy Kiel iced the game for White River with a pair of freebies.
White River (20-5) clinched a regional berth and will play Clover Park in the district semifinals Saturday at 8:15 at Foss High in Tacoma.
Sequim (15-8) will meet the Eatonville Cruisers in the loser out consolation bracket Saturday at 11 at Foss, needing three wins -- Saturday, Monday and Tuesday -- to nab a regional spot.
