PREP BASKETBALL: Sequim boys 53, Kingston 47

(Sequim) -- Gabe Carter and Andrew Shimer scored 15 points apiece Monday night as the Sequim High Wolves knocked off the Kingston Buccaneers 53-47 in Olympic League boys basketball.
The Wolves (2-2 overall and 2-1 in Olympic League play) trailed 47-46 after Henry English scored a fast break layup with 3:42 left -- Kingston's final points of the game.
Sequim's Tim Guan scored two straight hoops, giving the Wolves a 50-47 advantage with 2:43 remaining.
The Wolves defense prevailed in the final minutes. Shimer hit a layup with 36 seconds left and converted a free throw late for the final margin of 53-47.
It was the Wolves' first victory over the Buccaneers since January 30th, 2009, ending a seven-game Kingston winning streak against Sequim.
The Bucs led most of the way in the early going and had a 15-12 advantage at the first quarter.
Kingston's KT Deam hit a 14-foot baseline shot at the intermission horn - knotting the affair at 27 apiece.
Bucs center Hans Schippers scored 16 of his 19 game-high points in the first half.
Sequim led 43-40 after a roaring third quarter that featured 6 lead changes and Carter scoring 8 of his 15 in the frame.
Kingston (3-2 overall and 2-2 in Olympic League play) hosts Olympic Wednesday night, while Sequim travels to Belfair to play the North Mason Bulldogs.


In other boys Olympic League scores, Bremerton over North Kitsap 80-60, Port Townsend beat North Mason 53-38 and Klahowya knocked off Port Angeles 63-52. Central Kitsap dropped Olympic 72-68 in a non-league tilt.
In girls Olympic League games, Bremerton downed North Kitsap 64-52, Kingston beat Sequim 43-34, Port Angeles drubbed Klahowya 51-25 and Port Townsend defeated North Mason 40-26.
