Sequim girls squeak past Crosspoint Academy 34-32

(Chico) -- Sequim's Hailey Lester made two free throws in the final minute and Crosspoint's Desere'e Doty missed a potential game tying shot at the final buzzer as the Wolves squeaked past the Warriors 34-32 Wednesday night.
Doty was the game-high scorer with 18 points and tied the contest at 32 on a triple with 2:35 left.
Crosspoint outscored Sequim 19-13 in the second half, nearly overcoming 10-2 first quarter and 21-13 halftime deficits.
Sequim (3-1) was up 27-17 with 4:43 to go in the third period.
Doty and 6-1 Cailyn Cattell, who had 12 tallies, led the Warriors back within 5 at the end of the third quarter -- 27-24.
Victoria Cummins and Katherine Landoni had key fourth quarter baskets for Sequim that kept the Wolves from losing the lead.
Cummins and Elise Beuke had team-high honors with 8 markers.
Adrienne Haggerty and Ella Christiansen chipped in 4 apiece for the Wolves.
Doty's free throw for Crosspoint with 3:10 to play chopped the Sequim advantage to 32-29.
Desere'e Doty is the daughter of Sequim High graduate Derrin Doty, a member of the 1988 Wolves boys basketball team coached by Rick Kaps that won its first 25 games and was state Class AA runnerup to Rainier Beach.

Crosspoint (2-1) hosts North Mason Friday at 6, while the Wolves will meet Coupeville in a Saturday afternoon contest on Whidbey Island.
