Sequim boys whip Klahowya 56-31, now 6-1

(Sequim) -- A suffocating Sequim man-to-man defense forced 23 Klahowya turnovers Wednesday night as the Wolves whipped the Eagles 56-31 at Rick Kaps Gym.
Sequim improved to 6-1 overall with a 4-1 Olympic League mark; tied for second with Port Angeles -- a 73-51 winner over Bremerton.
The loss to the Wolves dropped Klahowya into third place at 3-1 (3-5 overall).
Kingston destroyed Port Townsend 72-23 and remained unbeaten in OL action at 4-0, 5-2 overall.
In Sequim, Klahowya's Drew Fagan hit for 7 of his 9 points in the first quarter as the lead changed hands 3 times in the early going.
Sequim freshman Alex Barry broke the last of 4 ties with a triple and the Wolves had a 14-11 advantage after one period.
Barry finished with 4 treys and 14 points, all in the first half.
Sequim turned up the defensive intensity in the second period, outscoring the Eagles 17-4.
Wolves senior Corbin Webb connected on 12 of his game-high 23 points before intermission as Sequim went to the locker room up 31-15.
Sequim held Klahowya's two top threats - Clark Rose and Mitch Flowers -- scoreless in the first two periods.
The Wolves led by as many as 29 points in the third quarter, up 54-25 at the third buzzer.
Reserves played most of the final period for both squads.
Sequim's Jayson Brocklesby paced the Wolves with 11 points, including another breakaway slam dunk.
Josh Ganowski led Klahowya with 10 points, while Flowers and Matt Van Vleet had 4 points apiece.
In the junior varsity contest, Sequim's Rory Kalleppa scored on a driving layup with 5 seconds remaining, pushing Sequim to a 53-51 victory.
The Sequim JV improved to 4-3 on the season.
The Sequim Lady Wolves lost their game at Klahowya Wednesday 40-33, falling to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.
