Sequim boys suffer first loss, to Bremerton 62-50

(Bremerton) -- Marshall Stevens scored 26 points as the Bremerton Knights beat the Sequim Wolves 62-50 Monday night.
Sequim (5-1, 3-1 in Olympic League play) suffered its first loss of the season as Bremerton took advantage on the offensive boards, scoring a number of second chance baskets.
The Knights (2-3, 2-1 in Olympic League play) played a tough, extended zone defense that allowed few open looks at the hoop for the Wolves.
After an early 4-2 Sequim advantage, Bremerton scored the last 7 points of the opening quarter, leading 9-4 at the first break.
Sequim's Jayson Brocklesby scored 8 of his 12 points in the second quarter, but the Knights held a 26-19 lead at halftime.
The Wolves rallied in the third quarter as Corbin Webb had 6 of his 18 points and Sequim closed to within 2 at 34-32 going into the final period.
Bremerton hit 13 of 22 free throws in the final period as Sequim got no closer than 2.
The Knights' Stevens scored 17 of his game-high 26 in the second half, 11 in the fourth stanza.
Sequim freshman Alex Barry had 11 points and Evan Hill added 5.
Bremerton sophomore Deonti Dixon had 11 points, Andrew Shadle had 9 and Mikey Lawrence added 8.
Sequim hosts the Klahowya Eagles (3-4, 3-0 in Olympic League play), a 69-58 winner over North Kitsap Monday, for a Wednesday contest at Rick Kaps Gym.
