2016 Football Game 5 - North Kitsap 42, Sequim 7

(Sequim) -- The North Kitsap Vikings stayed unbeaten Friday night, rolling up almost 500 total yards on the way to a 42-7 Olympic League 2A division win over the Sequim Wolves.

The Vikings (5-0 overall and 3-0 in Olympic League play) got on the board first with a 63-yard pass from Tristin Newman to Carson Bower, putting North Kitsap ahead 6-0 with 6:33 left in the first quarter.

After forcing Sequim to punt on its first two possessions, the Vikings' Dax Solis ripped off an 85-yard romp on a counter play to the Wolves 6.

Solis, who had 141 hashes on 11 carries, scored on the next play and NK was up 14-0 with 24 seconds left in the first stanza.

Sequim (3-2 overall and 1-1 in Olympic League play) turned the ball over on downs at the Vikings 37 early in the second period and North Kitsap responded with a 63 yard march in 6 plays.

The NK drive was capped off by a 32-yard TD run by Sam Henden that pushed the visitors ahead 21-0 with 7:12 before intermission.

A 43-yard bomb from Riley Cowan to Curtis Gorr put Sequim at the Vikings 13 to set up the Wolves only score of the contest.

Gavin Velarde pulled in an 11-yard scoring strike from Cowan in the left corner of the end zone with 5:29 remaining in the 2nd period, closing the gap to 21-7.

North quelled any thoughts of a Sequim comeback, grinding out 14 plays and scoring with 20 seconds left on a Nate Kjormoe 14-yard run that made it 28-7 Vikings at halftime.

The Vikings held Sequim scoreless in the second half and put 2 more touchdowns on the board, a 48-yard Henden run with 10:39 left in the third quarter and a 6-yard Joel Ingram dash with 7:11 to go.

Henden had 112 yards on 8 carries with 2 scores.

The Vikings had a 499-to-165 advantage in total yards.

North Kitsap hosts Bremerton next week, when Sequim will entertain North Mason.
