Bremerton holds off Sequim 14-13
(Sequim) -- Bremerton held off Sequim 14-13 Thursday night to take its first Olympic League 2A Division victory of the season in the rain and wind at Sequim High School.
Sequim's loss, coupled with a Port Angeles defeat to Kingston 23-7 Thursday, sets up a three-way tiebreaker Tuesday night as Kingston, Port Angeles and Sequim will be fighting for the league's fourth and final playoff berth.
Sequim faces Port Angeles in the first "mini-game" of two - eight-minute quarters, the survivor playing Kingston with the playoff berth at stake.
The tiebreaker will most likely be held at North Kitsap or Silverdale Stadium.
The winner will face the South Puget Sound League champion next Friday or Saturday.
The Knights (2-6 overall, 1-5 in league) were ahead 14-7 with 10:44 to go after Ty Haley caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Connor Mahoney.
Sequim (4-5 overall, 2-4 in league) closed within a point with 2:02 remaining after Bailey Earley got his second touchdown reception of the game on a 5-yard scoring pass from Miguel Moroles.
A delay of game penalty on Sequim moved the PAT attempt back 5 yards and kicker Adrian Espinoza was unable to convert off the wet, muddy turf, leaving the score at 14-13 Knights.
The Wolves forced a Bremerton punt and got the ball back with 1:01 left at their own 15.
Moroles connected with Earley for 42 yards to the Bremerton 43 on the first play of the drive.
On a 3rd-and-27 after a Sequim chop block penalty, Moroles hit Gavin Velarde for 44 yards and a first down at the Knights 20.
The Wolves stalled and a fourth down 45-yard field goal attempt by Espinoza was wide right and short with 7 seconds left.
