2013 Football Game 8 - Port Angeles 37, Sequim 21

PREP FOOTBALL: Port Angeles 37, Sequim 21

(Sequim) -- Junior quarterback Ryan Rodocker threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter, propelling the Port Angeles Roughriders to a 37-21 victory over the winless Sequim High Wolves.
It was the first Port Angeles win against Sequim in the Rainshadow Rumble since 2007, when Eric Lane led the Riders to a 27-20 victory in Sequim.
The Roughriders took advantage of their size advantage on the offensive line to pile up 283 rushing yards on the night.
Rodocker, who replaced an injured Nathan Angevine last week at North Kitsap, effectively used play fakes on rollouts to complete 3 of his 8 passes for 71 yards and had one interception.
PA scores 15 straight in 3rd quarter
The game was tied at 15 at intermission and Miki Andrus got PA into Sequim territory on a 60-yard punt return early in the third period to the Sequim 19.
Three plays later, Rodocker found Andrus in the left corner of the end zone for a 19-yard scoring play, putting the Roughriders ahead 23-15 after Rodocker scored the 2 point conversion off a fizzled PAT snap.
Andrus had 2 catches for 46 yards.
Four minutes later, Rodocker got TD pass number 2 with a 25-yarder to Steven Lauderback, putting the visitors ahead 30-15 with 1:14 to go in the third quarter.
Wolves narrow gap
The Wolves took advantage of 6 yard punt early in the fourth quarter to take possession at the Rider 19.
Wolves quarterback Miguel Moroles scored on an 8-yard run, chopping the PA lead to 30-21 after a missed extra point.
Moroles was Sequim's leading rusher with 133 yards on 24 carries.
Port Angeles (2-6 overall, 2-4 in Olympic League play) asserted their will on the ground late as Andrus scored the final touchdown on an 8-yard run with 3:29 left and a 37-21 PA advantage.
Andrus carried the ball 17 for 120 yards.
Port Angeles had a big edge in rushing yardage, outgaining Sequim 283-185.
The Roughriders had a 354-290 advantage in total yards.
0-0 after 1st period
After a scoreless first quarter, the Roughriders got on the board first, taking advantage of a Sequim turnover-on-downs at the Wolves 42.
Matt Robbins crossed the Sequim goal line from 4 yards out with 9:36 left in the first quarter and PA led 8-0.
Robbins had 9 carries for 25 yards, but left the contest with a possible shoulder injury.
Center Billy Minks recovered a fumble in the end zone for the 2 point conversion.
Sequim (0-8 overall, 0-6 in Olympic League play) answered 34 seconds later after a big Brett Wright kickoff return put the Wolves in PA territory.
Josiah Anastasi caught a 6-yard scoring pass from Moroles and Ian Dennis caught the 2 point pass, tying the contest at 8.
Anastasi had 2 grabs for 10 yards, while Dennis caught 3 passes for 33 yards.
Port Angeles answered on the first play of the ensuing drive as Nick LaSorsa rumbled 60 yards for a Roughrider TD and the guests were ahead 15-8.
LaSorsa packed the pigskin 15 times for 137 yards.
Sequim tied the game on a 4th-and-13 from the PA 22 as Moroles connected with Dennis on a beautiful rainbow pass at the goal post with 32 seconds before intermission for the tie at 15 apiece.
Moroles completed 8 of his 15 passes for 105 yards, 2 touchdowns and had 1 interception.
