PREP FOOTBALL: North Kitsap 31, Sequim 14
(Poulsbo) -- A Homecoming feast of big plays Friday night for the North Kitsap Vikings, beating the Sequim Wolves 31-14.
The Vikings led 10-0 after one quarter and scored 3 more touchdowns in the second period, taking control at halftime 31-7.
A 63-yard run by running back Sean Crowell put the Vikings into scoring territory on the game's opening drive.
North led 3-0, settling for a 20-yard Field Goal by Andrew Hecker after the Wolves stuffed fullback Kyle North for no gain on 3rd-and-3 from the Sequim 4.
The Vikings cashed in a Sequim turnover with a 43-yard drive, capped by a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cody Blackmore to tight end Trevor Dennis, making it 10-0 North with 1:44 left in the opening quarter.
On the next Vikings drive, Blackmore hit Hecker for 33 yards to the Sequim 35.
Two plays later, Crowell galloped 34 yards to the Sequim end zone for a 17-0 North advantage.
Backup quarterback Alex Allbee connected with Hecker on the next North drive for 40 yards to the Sequim 15.
Kyle North scored 3 plays later on a 10-yard TD blast, leaving the Vikings ahead 23-0 with 6:03 before intermission.
On 3rd-and-8 from Sequim's own 40-yard-line, Brett Wright took a bubble screen pass from quarterback Miguel Moroles and broke several tackles on the way to a 60-yard scoring connection, cutting the lead to 23-7.
North took possession at their own 39 with 1:52 left in the half after a Sequim turnover-on-downs.
The Vikings went to the bag of tricks to go up 31-7, using a lateral from Blackmore to wide receiver Hecker, who threw deep to a wide open Bryce Hacker for a 42-yard strike just 7 seconds before halftime.
Sequim got the only score of the second half when Moroles connected with Ian Dennis on a 4th-and-5 for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 3:23 to go in the third quarter.
North Kitsap (2-2, 2-0 in Olympic League) will play at Bremerton Friday, while Sequim (0-4, 0-2 in Olympic League play) will host the Olympic Trojans.
