(Laurel) -- A huge non-league win for Sequim last Saturday as Frank Catelli hit Tyler Forshaw with a  35-yard touchdown pass with 1:04 remaining, sending the Wolves to a 29-22 victory over the 1A Meridian Trojans.

Trailing 14-7 in the third quarter, things looked grim for Sequim when Catelli turned an ankle on a Meridian sack and left the contest hobbling to the sideline.


On the very next play, backup Jack Wiker motored 40 yards to the end zone for the tying score.

The score remained tied at 14 in the fourth quarter, when Meridian's James Reedy-Capp sacked Wiker, forcing a fumble recovered by Johnny Murphy at the Trojans 35.

Meridian drove 15 plays, reaching the Sequim 1, before a false start flag and two straight pass incompletions turned the ball over on downs to the Wolves.

Sequim went on a 14-play march of its own with Catelli returning to leap into the end zone from the Meridian 1 with 3:14 left, making it 21-14 Wolves.

Running back Johnny Murphy scored from 5 yards out to pull Meridian within a point, then toured left end on the 2-point conversion, putting the Trojans ahead 22-21 with 1:50 remaining.

Sequim needed just 36 seconds and four plays to cover 74 yards for the winning score.


After two Catelli incompletions, the rifle-armed senior connected with Cody Field on a 40-yard bubble screen to the Meridian 35.

Catelli then fired a deep howitzer down the right sideline to a streaking Forshaw for the 35-yard go-ahead score.

Meridian QB Max McGuinn led Meridian's final comeback attempt, but the Wolves got a sack from Andrew Shimer with three seconds left and Sequim flushed McGuinn from the pocket for an wild throw on the game's final play.

Sequim (2-0) will visit Klahowya (1-1) for the Olympic League opener on Friday.
