The non-league contest featured 15 combined touchdowns, including 4 kickoff return scores, 3 by Sequim.

A state 1A semifinalist last season, Montesano broke open a 14-13 advantage with 4 touchdowns in the final 8 minutes and 20 seconds of the first half, taking the long walk to the Sequim High locker room ahead 41-13.

The club from the Grays Harbor County seat dominated the contest, limiting Sequim to 222 yards on 44 offensive snaps, while the Bulldogs churned out 733 yards in 73 plays, 10 yards per snap.

Gavin Velarde returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, giving the Sequim the initial lead at 7-0.

The Bulldogs responded with a 6-play, 80-yard drive, Klinger scoring from a yard and closing the gap to 7-6 after a missed 2-point conversion.

After a failed fourth down Sequim pass attempt by Riley Cowan gave the Bulldogs possession at the Wolves 39, Klinger ripped a 26 yarder to the Sequim 13, then took a 13-yard jaunt to pay dirt, putting the Bulldog ahead 14-7 with 1:09 left in the opening stanza.

Sequim put together its best drive of the game - 4 minutes, 26 seconds -- covering 67 yards in 13 plays, highlighted by a 23-yard pass from Cowan to Payton Glasser that moved the Wolves to the Monte 27.

Whitney was Sequim's leading ball packer with 55 yards on 12 carries.

Cowan was picked off again by Nick Chapman and the Bulldogs took over at the Sequim 16 with 2:37 remaining in the half.

Montesano had a 7-play, 84-yard march with Klinger scoring on a 15-yard pass from Ridgway making it 35-13 Bulldogs with 45 seconds to go.

The Bulldogs recovered an onside kick at the Wolves 43 and got to the end zone with no time remaining after Nick Chapman caught a deflected Ridgway pass at the goal line for a 41-13 halftime bulge.

Ridgway completed 10 of his 15 passes for 196 yards for 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

Five more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter

Montesano's Klinger had 3 more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter (9, 10, and 20 yard runs).

Sequim managed to keep the affair from the range of the mercy rule, closing to 48-20 after Velarde took the jailbreak screen from Cowan 33 yards with 6:06 left in the third period.
