2010 Football Game 2 - Meridian 55, Sequim 16



(Sequim) -- Quarterback Zach Slesk threw five touchdown passes and ran for another as the Meridian Trojans walloped the Sequim Wolves 55-16 in non-league football Saturday.
The elusive Trojans signal caller connected with Tait Slesk for two scoring strikes, the first with 6:49 left in the first quarter that put Meridian up 7-0.
Slesk finished the day 21 of 35 passes for 343 yards, with 3 interceptions.
Sequim got its only lead with 5:05 left in the opening period after Chris Falkey intercepted Slesk and scored on an 18-yard touchdown return.
Frank Catelli ran for the 2-point conversion from the swinging gate formation for an 8-7 Sequim advantage.
Meridian led 13-8 at the first quarter break, getting the lead again on a 25-yard scoring pass from Slesk to Mitchell Tripp, the first of 4 consecutive Meridian touchdowns.
The Trojans led 28-8 at halftime.
Slesk found the speedy Tripp on a 91-yard scoring play early in the third quarter that broke the game open at 35-8.
Sequim's only offensive touchdown came with 10:52 left on Frank Catelli's 1-yard run.
Drew Rickerson hit Catelli for the 2-point pass, cutting the Meridian lead to 42-16. Rickerson finished the game 10 for 24 passing for 113 yards with 3 interceptions.
Meridian's Ryan Newby blocked a Drew Rickerson punt that was caught in mid-air by Denver VanderYacht and returned 4-yards for a touchdown with 8:31 left, extending the Trojans lead to 48-16.
Quarterback Slesk toured the right end for 25 yards and another score with 6:07 remaining for the final points.
Meridian outgained Sequim 545-208.
Sequim (1-1) will host the Klahowya Eagles (0-2) in the Olympic League opener Friday.
